SUMMARY:An Olde Country Christmas: Readings from Washington Irving
DESCRIPTION:This special presentation of stories and seasonal songs takes us back to England at Christmas time in the early 19th century  Washington Irving is far better known for two other works\, “Rip Van Winkle” and “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” Those short stories and his Christmas essays\, were published as installments in The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon\, Gent. The essays\, told from the perspective of a fictional English gentleman\, are based on the holiday festivities and traditions Irving savored while representing his family’s import-export business in England. His literary gift made him a celebrity on both side of the Atlantic. \nAN INTRODUCTION\nDanielle Velesig\, from the Museums’ board of directors\, will introduce the readings that\, in many ways\, resemble the attitudes of today. \nTHE READERS\nReverend Will Mebane Jr.\, Carol Casey\, Len Miele\, Meaghan Quinn\, Dan Tritle and Annie Hart Cool bring backgrounds in theater\, education\, broadcasting\, church and community leadership\, poetry\, publishing\, music\, and commercial enterprise to the program. \nTHE MUSIC\nStephanie Miele\, accompanied by Jennifer Rossiter \nHOLIDAY CHEER\nEnjoy seasonal refreshments after the program\, part of Falmouth’s weekend of holiday festivities.
