SUMMARY:Superstition & the Strange: An Autumnal Tour of the c. 1790 Dr. Francis Wicks House
DESCRIPTION:Superstition & the Strange: An Autumnal Tour of the c. 1790 Dr. Francis Wicks House \nThursday\, October 9th & 30th at 6pm \n“The good people love the day\, and the bad the night\,” as the old French proverb solemnly reminds us. The approach of the night has been humankind’s oldest and most haunting torment. \nAfter nightfall\, all is much quieter\, we fear what we do not even take note of during the day: the cold wind shaking the bones of the house; the furtive night bugs and unseen creatures in bramble; the somber call of an owl\, perched just beyond the window; the creak and groan of age-old floorboards\, as if trodden by feet of the long since dead. \nUsing museum primary sources and first-hand accounts this October\, let the Falmouth Museums on the Green lift the gauzy veil between the past and present\, and learn about the macabre tales and superstitions that held sway over the 18th and 19th-century mind to find out what people were actually afraid of. While all the stories will be true and researched\, you will uncover that sometimes fact is stranger than fiction. Gather\, if you will\, and allow us to guide you between now and then\, after all\, the past is never quite at rest. \n$30 Non-Member/$20 Museums on the Green Member. Includes a libation and light appetizers. \nRegister Here
