DESCRIPTION:Pedal Through the Past: A Bike Tour with the Falmouth Historical Society \nTwo Dates: September 18 & October 16\, 1:30pm \nFall is in the air—the best time of year for a long bicycle ride!  If you love bicycling and history\, please join us for a historic bike tour around Falmouth. \nMuseum docent and tour guide Scott Wayne will lead a small pack of cyclists on a route that loops from the Village Green\, down to Woods Hole’s Penzance Point\, and back again. \nMuch of the trip takes place along the Shining Sea Bikeway\, which was dedicated in November 1975 as part of the town’s U.S. Bicentennial celebration.  Now that we’re marking the 250th birthday of the United States in 2026\, it’s an especially good time to revisit the bikeway and to discover a variety of historic landmarks nearby. \nThis unique tour will recreate a journey first taken by Falmouth citizens in September 1930. In that year\, Massachusetts was celebrating its 300th birthday\, and each town placed markers at its own most cherished historic sites.  Falmouth residents made a solemn procession to nine locations\, unveiling memorial plaques at each stop.  They traveled on foot and by motorcar\, and no doubt a few hardy souls joined the parade on their bicycles! \nThese historic markers have stood for 96 years.  You may have been passing them by for years without even noticing them.  Some locations\, like the Village Green\, you can probably guess.  Others may be news to you (Ever heard of General Swift’s birthplace?).  Our bike tour will stop at each location\, where Scott will explain its significance and show vintage photos.   Counting the time spent at these stops\, the tour should take about three hours. \nWHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW \n\nThe ride covers about 11 miles\, of which 7 are on the bike path and 4 on streets.\nBring your own bike\, helmet\, water\, etc.\nNo fully electric bikes; pedal-assisted okay\nParticipants must be 16 or older\nParticipants must sign a liability waiver\nLimit of 8 participants\nNo rain date; if canceled for weather your money will be refunded\nTour is 3 hours\n\nTickets: $25 Non-Members / $15 Museums on the Green Members \nNot a member yet? Join Here! \nRegister Here

DESCRIPTION:The Falmouth Historical Society and the Falmouth Garden Club are pleased to provide the opportunity to tour the spectacular gardens at the Museums on the Green this summer! Take a walking tour of each of the five gardens in this beautiful location led by Falmouth Garden Club members. \nTours on Tuesday or Saturday at 11am\, allowing time to visit the buildings. \nThe tour will last about 40 minutes. The dates are as follows: \nTuesday\, June 9th \nSaturday\, June 27th \nTuesday\, July 7th \nSaturday\, July 18th \nTuesday\, August 4th \nSaturday\, August 22nd \nTuesday\, September 8th \nSaturday\, September 19th \nTuesday\, October 6th \nSaturday\, October 10th \nTours meet at the Hallet Barn Visitors Center. DESCRIPTION:26th Annual Heritage Award Celebration at Museums on the Green\nCelebrate Tamsen Evans George with the 2026 Heritage Award \nThursday\, October 1 | 4:00–6:00 p.m. | Falmouth Museums on the Green \nThis October\, we are delighted to honor Tamsen Evans George with the Falmouth Historical Society’s 2026 Heritage Award\, celebrating her extraordinary contributions to Falmouth’s history\, historic preservation\, the arts\, and the Museums on the Green. \nTamsen’s connection to Falmouth began when she was just eight years old\, and she has been an active member of our community for decades. Over the years\, she has served as president of the Falmouth Historical Society for eight years\, volunteered as a docent and Collections Committee member\, helped strengthen our Federal furniture collection\, contributed to exhibitions and community programs\, and played an important role in the preservation and restoration of the Dr. Francis Wicks House. She was involved in the work of “Fix the Wicks” long before it became the capital campaign we know today. Her commitment to Falmouth extends well beyond the Museums\, including nearly a decade of service on the Falmouth Historical Commission\, work with the Community Preservation Committee\, and her recent involvement with the Falmouth 250th Committee. \nHer passion for history has also shaped her professional life and her writing. Tamsen has worked with organizations including the Cambridge Arts Council\, Massachusetts Cultural Council\, and Museum of Fine Arts\, where she served as Head of Public Programs. She later led two nonprofit organizations and became deeply involved in historic restoration\, including the remarkable rehabilitation of historic properties and the preservation of historic carriages. Following her retirement\, she turned to historical writing\, authoring Allegiance\, The Life and Times of William Eustis\, which was an award finalist in the United States History category of American Book Fest\, as well as three eighteenth-century murder mysteries. Through all of this work\, Tamsen has shared a belief that history becomes most meaningful when we understand the real people behind it. \nPlease join us for an autumnal afternoon celebrating Tamsen and the remarkable legacy she has helped build in Falmouth. The celebration will take place in the Cultural Center at the Falmouth Museums on the Green\, a building that holds a special place in Tamsen’s heart. The afternoon will include food and libations\, along with remarks from friends\, colleagues\, and community members who will share stories and highlight Tamsen’s many contributions to Falmouth and the Historical Society. \nTickets are $50\, with proceeds benefiting the Museum’s education and collections programs.
