Falmouth Historical Society’s 2025 Heritage Award Celebration Honoring Jim Lloyd
Thursday, August 7th | 5:30–7:30 PM | Remarks at 6pm
Falmouth Museums on the Green, 55 Palmer Ave
Please join the Falmouth Historical Society for a festive evening in the museum’s beautiful garden honoring Jim Lloyd, this year’s recipient of the Heritage Award. This annual award celebrates individuals whose dedication and contributions have made a lasting impact on the preservation and enrichment of Falmouth’s history and community life.
Jim Lloyd’s commitment to civic and cultural life in Falmouth spans decades. From leading trolley tours through the town’s maritime past to serving as treasurer for numerous nonprofits—from Salt Pond Areas Bird Sanctuaries to the Friends of Fairwinds—Jim has been a constant champion of the causes that make our community strong. His long-standing support of the Historical Society, alongside his late wife Caroline, has included everything from gift shop stewardship to educational programming and strategic leadership.
The evening will include a catered reception with libations, live musical performances by local youth string musicians, and a special self-guided candlelight tour of the c.1790 Dr. Francis Wicks House Museum. The tour pays tribute to the “Fix the Wicks” campaign—a restoration initiative close to Jim’s heart. We invite you to raise a glass in Jim’s honor and celebrate the inspiring spirit of community service and historic preservation.
Tickets: $90per person

Jim Lloyd Bio:
Born in Iowa, Jim Lloyd grew up in Schenectady, New York where his parents had emigrated from Wales (father) and Scotland (mother). His love of music comes from his paternal grandfather, a Welsh slate quarryman, who left the mines in his teens to graduate from the Royal Academy of Music in London.
An avid cross country and track runner, he majored in political science at Colgate University and received a master’s in public administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Upon graduation, he was drafted but instead enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving as a public information officer in the Caribbean, Mediterranean and the Western Pacific. This included service in Danang, Vietnam.
After 3 ½ years, he was discharged as a LT. and began a corporate career in consulting and IT management with Wells Fargo, Transamerica and the Kendall Company. In 1984, he married Caroline Schea, a merchandising executive for John Wanamaker in Philadelphia, Pa. They spent three years in Boston before buying Mostly Hall B&B and moving to Falmouth. After 14 years entertaining visitors from around the world, they moved to a condo in the Beebe Woods.
Caroline and Jim first became acquainted with the Historical Society shortly after arriving in Falmouth. Caroline managed the gift shop in its many locations and served as president of the board. Trolley tours of Falmouth’s maritime history kept Jim busy for nearly twenty years. During the fall, 25-30 people would ride the trolley from the Village Green to Woods Hole and back. Caroline also kept busy at the Falmouth Service Center and at the College Light Opera as treasurer on the board of directors. Meanwhile Jim was serving as treasurer of The Friends of Fairwinds, The Penikese Island School and still as treasurer of Salt Pond Areas Bird Sanctuaries. Jim also served on the boards of Highfield Halls & Gardens, Neighborhood Falmouth and The Falmouth Rotary Club.
After Caroline’s passing in 2021, an internship and education program was funded at the Society. Jim continues to honor her legacy by supporting the many businesses and nonprofits that make Falmouth such a special place. He appreciates being honored with a Heritage Award and invites everyone to join him in the “Fix the Wicks” campaign.
