A Woman’s World: We’ve Come a Long Way, Baby!
Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at 4pm
In an 18th century American family, men were responsible for its support through their work; farming, fishing, trading or skilled labor. Women also had their assigned place and role in the household determined for the “fair sex” by custom and laws.
But questions arise. Circumstances change. Children are born. Deaths occur. A father, brother or husband might not be available when a woman must make decisions. How imperative was it to have male supervision or accompaniment in business matters?
Join Tamsen George in peering into the eighteenth-century world of women. We recite, “A man’s work is sun to sun, a woman’s work is never done. . .” but is that true?
$20 Non-Members/$10 Members; or donation based ticket. Light refreshments served
Tamsen George’s book will also be for sale during the event – Allegiance: The Life and Times of William Eustis, published in 2022, has an international award in US history. It celebrates a relatively unknown doctor who knew all the standard and limited list of “founders.” Without him and others in that second row capacity, they could not have managed our revolution and solution as well as they did. The book is a biography and goes into all the adventures and people he knew here and abroad.
