Declaration of Independence / Frederick Douglass Reading
July 2, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
It was on July 2, 1776 that the Continental Congress voted to declare independence from Great Britain. Two days later on July 4, Congress approved Jefferson’s document that laid out the reasons for their decision.
On the anniversary of the official vote to establish a new nation, please join us for our annual reading of the Declaration of Independence. This will be followed by a reading of excerpts from Frederick Douglass’s speech “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?”
This event, held on the grounds of our museum, is free and open to all.
