Falmouth Heights Historical Walking Tour – SOLD OUT

Falmouth Heights
Always a summer place
Falmouth Heights, the highest point of land along Vineyard Sound, has long been a beloved summer retreat. From the 1600s, when Awashonks, the Queen of the Sakonnet people, visited to enjoy the cool ocean breezes and the closeness to her people on Martha’s Vineyard, to the present day, where travelers from around the world come to savor the glorious ocean views and abundant seafood that define this coastal gem.
Conveniently located on the mainland, the area’s proximity to the Vineyard made it a natural attraction for developers from Worcester around 1870. Soon, charming Carpenter Gothic “Gingerbread” cottages and elegant seaside hotels—including the famed Oak Crest Inn—began to appear, shaping the Heights into a bustling summer community.
Over the decades, Falmouth Heights has seen its share of colorful stories. Tales of 1920s speakeasies, and reports of 30 to 40 arrests per night during the lively 1970s, mingle with more genteel memories of leisurely beach strolls, seaside picnics, and family gatherings through the years.
Come join us on a walk through time and discover the fascinating history and enduring spirit of Falmouth Heights.
