Stories of Tragedy and Triumph
The Castagna. The Francis. The Montclair. The Jason. The Portland. The Peruvian. The Onondaga. The Eldia. For centuries, the Outer Beach of Cape Cod has seen great shipwrecks and even greater rescues. Join Cape Cod historian Don Wilding, author of the upcoming “Cape Cod Shipwrecks: Stories of Triumph & Tragedy” for a look back at these sea adventures and misadventures–from the earliest days of the U.S. Lifesaving Service (1872) through the early years of the U.S. Coast Guard during the first half of the 20th century. The award-winning newspaper editor, writer and designer is also a columnist for the Cape Codder newspaper and the author of two other Cape history books.
